How It Works

What Is The Players Golf Tour

The Players Golf Tour is a new competitive golf league that is based purely on stroke play tournaments. You do NOT need a handicap to play so anyone can play. However, you will probably need to shoot in the 70’s in order to finish in the Top 10. But even if you shoot in the 80’s and 90’s and not sure about competing in stroke play check out the Fun Format section on the main menu. The plan is to play 2 – 4 tournaments per month. And depending on what the weather is like in your city the season may only last 6 months or it might be year round if you are lucky enough to live in a city that is warm year round. However, each tournament will not be played on a single day. In order to be more flexible and allow more people to enter we will spread it out over a week period. This will give you plenty of time to get your round in. Scores will be posted throughout the week and Final Scores will be posted on Sunday night. And it is simple to get started. First, register with us so we can get some important information and then go to the schedule and select the Tournament that you want to play in. You will first select your City and then you can enter any of the tournaments listed. You will pay your entry fee when you select a tournament. After you sign up the next step is to set up your Tee Time. The next section talks about Tee Times. Play your round, submit your score, and then follow the tournament scores. If you finish in the Top 10 or Top 20 collect your winnings. It’s that easy!

Fun Formats

We realize that most golfers do not shoot in the 70’s so that is why we created the Fun Format Section. You will play just like any other tournament but instead of stroke play we will have different twists that will give everyone a chance to finish in the Top 10. Here are few examples.

Random 6 – In this game we will take the scores on 6 random holes. Add them up and that is your total. So anyone can win!

Front 9 Back 9 – In this game we will randomly pick either the Front 9 or the Back 9 and that will be your score.

Random 8 – In this game we will pick 8 random holes and change your score to a par. It may help or it may hurt you. If you had a bad round it could put right into the Top 10!

Random 9 – In this game we will pick 9 random holes and add up your score. Lowest score wins!

We will have many more different games that will be played similar to those. You will find these tournaments under the Fun Format Section. There will be a description of exactly what the game is so you will know before you pay the entry fee. There is something for everyone! There will be a few tournaments on the tour played like this too but most of the regular tour tournaments are stroke play competition.

Tee Times

This has definitely been the hardest part to figure out when it comes to setting up the tournaments. It is not a perfect system but it works. After you pay your entry fee you will be randomly paired with another player. You will be given each others contact info and you will need to work together to set up a Tee Time during the week. Tee Times should be set up anytime Monday-Sunday the week of the tournament. The deadline to enter a tournament will be the Friday before the week of the tournament. You should get your pairing a few days before the tournament week. If you are unable to schedule a time that works with the player that you have been partnered with then you can contact us on the main menu and we can try and find another group for you to play with. If there are no options that work for you then we will refund your entry fee. You can request a refund on the contact us page on the main menu.

How Does The Tournament End

After you play your round during the week you will have the person you were paired with sign your card. There is a place to submit your score on the website. You will simply take a picture of your scorecard and submit it. We are trying to keep it as simple as possible. As scores come in they will be posted and you will be able to check in during the week on the Latest Scores page to see where you stand. The last tee times will be on Sunday and the deadline to submit your scorecard is 7:00 on Sunday night. The Final Scores will be posted on Sunday night. Depending on how many people enter the tournament, the Top 10 will get paid the majority of the money. All Ties, including if there is a tie for 1st, will be pooled together and split up. Similar to what happens on a professional tour.

Rain Outs / No Shows

If your round is rained out you will need to reschedule with who you are paired with. If you or the person you were paired cannot reschedule during that week then your entry fee will be refunded to both of you. Just go to the contact us page and follow the instructions to submit your refund request. However, if you are a no show for any other reason besides weather then you will be disqualified for that tournament and your entry fee will not be refunded. If your playing partner is a no show please go to the contact us page and look for the No Show section. You will be able to report who the No Show was and request a refund. Keep in mind that you are scheduled to play with someone else and if you do not show up it affects other people as well.

Entry Fee

Starting out the entry fee will only be $30 per tournament. The entry fee does not include your green fees. You will need to pay that just like any other round. The golf courses are not associated with the The Players Golf Tour so if you reference that when you check in they will not know what you are talking about. You will schedule your round with the player you are paired with and just play a round like you would any other time. There is a schedule of tournaments and you can choose which ones you would like to enter. Just choose the tournament you would like to enter and pay the $30 entry fee. Once you do that you will be contacted about your pairing. There is an example Scoreboard at the bottom of this page.

Tournaments

I call them tournaments even though they are spread out over a week. We may change the format over time but we are going to start with this so it can be accessible to as many people as possible who would like to play. The amount of courses that we will play will depend on how many public courses are in your city. For example, if you are playing in a smaller town you may be playing a full season on just 3 or 4 courses. However, if you are in a bigger city we will try and have tournaments at all of the courses. Of course, if you are lucky enough to live in a city that is warm enough to play year round you will be playing the same courses but we will try and spread them out as much as possible. If there are courses that are not on the schedule and you think they would be good courses to add please contact us and let us know. Sometimes we may miss some courses especially if they are newer courses.

Stroke Play With A Few Twists

The reason that The Players Golf Tour was created was to have a league that was based on Stroke Play and most of the tournaments will be strictly stroke play. However, with that being said we are going to offer a few tournaments that are still based on Stroke Play for the most part but with a few fun twists. Here are a few examples of what we may do with a few tournaments. If any tournament is going to be different it will be stated exactly what it is before you pay your entry fee so you can choose not to play those if you do not like the format.

The Random 6 – This will be a tournament that will be played as stroke play but we will randomly choose 6 holes to use the scores on. So your total score will be based on those 6 holes.

Front 9 Back 9 – In this format we will randomly choose 1 hole on the front 9 and 1 hole on the back 9 and change your score to a par. So it can either hurt or help your score on 2 holes. Or it may not affect your score at all. This a fun way to put a small twist on your score without affecting the majority of your round.

New Member Register

Before you enter a tournament you will need to register with us. This will give us all of the info we will need like contact info and how to get paid.

Top 10 Payouts

Depending on how may people have signed up for each tournament the Top 10 will win the majority of the money. If we see a large number of players entering the tournaments this may be adjusted. Below is an example Scoreboard. We will be sending winners payment through Venmo or Paypal or by check. You can choose when you first register. The way this is calculated may evolve over time but this is good example of how we will start.

Score Board Example

20 Player Example

This would be an example of 20 players. The amounts may change but this is a good example of the payouts.

50 Player Example

In this example of 50 players you can see more players receive a payout even if it is small. These examples are based on a $30 Entry Fee. We may increase that over time if there is enough interest so we can make the payouts more.
